Jason M. Balette, M.D., F.A.C.S.

A native Texan, Dr. Balette grew up in The Woodlands. After graduating from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science degree, he attended medical school at the University of Texas – Houston. Dr. Balette completed his general surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He joined SGOTW in August of 2006 and became board certified by the American Board of Surgery in 2007.

Dr. Balette’s interests are in general and advanced laparoscopic surgery. Specific areas of interest include abdominal and intestinal procedures, hernia repairs, breast, thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. In addition, he has received extensive training in advanced laparoscopic procedures including, colectomy, splenectomy, adrenalectomy, nissen fundoplication, and bariatric surgery. Dr. Balette has recently authored and presented research evaluating gallstone formation in the bariatric patient.

Dr. Balette enjoys golfing, fishing and hunting.  He is married with two daughters.

James A. Field, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Field grew up in Spring. He graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences. He then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he received his medical degree. Dr. Field stayed on to complete his general surgery residency, being administrative chief resident his final year. In 2001, he became board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Field has held many leadership positions, such as Chief of Surgery-St. Luke's The Woodlands, Cancer Committee Chair and Co-Director of Trauma at Memorial Hermann Hospital The Woodlands.  Dr. Field also serves on numerous committees including the Operating Room Committee and the Peer Review Committee at St. Luke's The Woodlands.

Dr. Field’s interests are in general and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He treats diseases of the breast, abdominal organs, and hernias. He has extensive experience with laparoscopic procedures including: hernias, colectomies, reflux procedures, gall bladders, and appendectomies.

Dr. Field is married and enjoys travel, golf, and sports.

Pete Turcinovic, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Turcinovic grew up in The Woodlands. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He then completed his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. In 1999, he became board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Turcinovic is a former Chief of Staff at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, and serves on numerous committees (credentials, peer review, ethics and more).

Dr. Turcinovic is interested in breast, hernia, thyroid, intestinal, and all aspects of general and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He combines compassion with advanced technologies to provide patients with exceptional medical care.

He is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Dr. Turcinovic is married and has three daughters.

James Ryan Maggart, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr Maggart grew up in El Paso, Texas but his family moved to Spring in 1992. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1995 and then attended Texas Tech University School of Medicine, graduating in 1999. Dr Maggart completed his general surgery residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 2004 and has been practicing general surgery in The Woodlands and Conroe since graduation. He recently joined Surgical Group of The Woodlands in July 2012. He is board certified by The American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons.

Dr Maggart has served in many hospital leadership positions including Chairman and Co-Chairman of general surgery at Conroe Regional Medical Center. He also has served on multiple committees including the Peer Review and Quality of Care Committees at St Lukes Hospital in The Woodlands and is The Woodlands representative to the Surgery Clinical Programs Committee for Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Dr Maggart’s interests include general and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He treats diseases of the abdominal organs, breast, hernias, and hemorrhoids and specializes in laparoscopic colon, gallbladder, and appendix removal, as well as laparoscopic hernia repair and minimally invasive hemorrhoid surgery.

Dr Maggart is married with two sons and values his faith and family while enjoying fitness, travel, and sports.


Drew Howard, M.D., F.A.C.S.

A native Texan, Dr. Howard grew up in Klein, Texas, graduating from Klein High School. He completed his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts in Religion at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He then completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of South Alabama and a fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Florida.

Dr. Howard’s interests are in bariatric and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He has received extensive training in advanced laparoscopic procedures dealing with the esophagus, stomach, intestines, spleen, gallbladder, adrenal glands and various abdominal hernias. Dr. Howard has authored and presented research related to treatment of reflux, colon disease, and sleeve gastrectomy. He has received a number of awards including recent Top Gun finalist at the annual SAGES laparoscopic competition.

Dr. Howard enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, playing golf, lake activities, and watching Aggie sports.

Timothy M. Hodges, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Timothy Michael Hodges iss an affiliated trauma surgeon on the Medical Staff of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital. He is dual board-certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

Dr. Hodges attended and graduated with honors from Texas A & M with a Bachelor of Science degree in genetics in 1995. He then received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2000 from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Hodges subsequently completed his general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Then he continued to complete his surgical care fellowship at Presley Regional Trauma Center, also in Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Hodges has joined the Surgical Group of the Woodlands practice on the Campus of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands – where he now holds the role of Trauma Director for the hospital.

Dr. Hodges is a native resident of Houston. He enjoys hunting, fly fishing and raising cattle.

Sayl Bunyan M.D.

Dr.Bunyan grew up in Baghdad, where he graduated from the medical school of Baghdad University in 2006. He immigrated to the United States and completed his general surgery training in the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX.

Dr.Bunyan practices general, laparoscopic and Robotic surgery. He specialize in gall bladder and biliary surgery, different types of hernia surgery, stomach surgery, small intestine resection and appendectomy, colon and rectal surgery, Endocrine surgery including adrenalectomy, pancreas, thyroid, parathyroid surgery, and breast surgery.

Dr.Bunyan in very passionate about treating cancer, particularly the surgical treatment of pancreatic, thyroid, colorectal and breast tumors. He also has special interest in the surgical treatment of complex ventral abdominal hernias and laparoscopic/robotic hiatal hernias and fundoplication procedures.

Dr.Bunyan is the author of the book chapter (Complications of Breast Surgery) in the Second edition of Complications in Surgery and Trauma.

Dr.Bunyan enjoys sports and traveling,he is married with two children.
